Barrel Scope Solutions takes over Leh Airport parking operations

Barrel Scope technologies has taken over parking operations at India’s highest airport, Kushok Bakula Rimpochee, and is using smart technologies to improve productivity.
Barrel Scope Solutions, a pioneer in parking automation and traffic management, has successfully taken over full parking operations at Leh’s Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, India’s highest airport. This complex project, located at an elevation of 3,256 meters (10,682 feet) above sea level, represents a critical milestone in the company’s effort to transform parking and traffic management even in high-altitude and harsh terrains.
Leh Airport, a major entrance to the Ladakh region, is known for its erratic weather, harsh terrain, and strict security measures. Managing parking operations in such a setting necessitates a unique combination of advanced technology, professional labour, and operational knowledge.
The freshly placed Boom Barriers, Ticket Dispensing Machines, and synchronised clocks were inaugurated by the airport director, Ramandeep Singh Saini, in the presence of senior members from the Leh Police and CISF. Speaking with the journalists, Saini states – “Primary objectives of introducing smart parking solutions are twofold, namely, faster movement of vehicles and optimum utilisation of limited parking space. Some of the challenges faced in Leh as against other airports in India are unique; for example, unpredictable weather conditions, unscheduled VIP movement, etc. Hence, by regulating parking spaces and creating an efficient traffic flow, most of these challenges can be addressed.”
Visitors are given a seven-minute grace period from the moment they enter and exit the airport, after which parking charges will apply. There are several payment alternatives available, including UPI, QR code, cash, FASTag, and a monthly pass system for regular visits.
Saugat Mahapatra, Chief Executive Officer of Barrel Scope Solutions, remarks, “Our smart parking solutions are deployed across multiple shopping malls, IT parks and government parking lots in the country. However, through interactions with Taxi Union, CISF and local Ladakhi citizens, we understood that one size will not fit all and we have to plan differently for Leh Airport Operations. I am very proud of my team and wish to thank the local resources as well, who completed the installation in minus 18 degrees, where even the drinking water had frozen due to the cold.”
