BRO builds strategic bridge to improve Rajouri access

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) is constructing a critical bridge connecting Naushera to Seri Block in Rajouri, enhancing access to important services and shortening travel time.

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has begun constructing a long-awaited motorable bridge that will connect Naushera to Seri Block in Rajouri district, Jammu & Kashmir. The new bridge aims to greatly enhance villagers’ lives by providing improved access to key services and shortening travel times, particularly for individuals requiring emergency medical care.

For years, inhabitants in Rajouri’s outlying districts have experienced transportation issues, with huge distances separating them from essential services. The new bridge will connect ten settlements, reducing the isolation felt by many and offering more accessible paths for residents. One villager expressed relief about the ongoing construction, stating, “After the bridge is built, it would give us a lot of ease. It will shorten our trip time and increase connectivity.” Another villager expressed similar feelings, stating that the bridge would save an hour in travel time, bringing joy and optimism to the town.

Other initiatives, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s October 2024 inauguration of various road and bridge projects across Jammu and Kashmir, have also contributed to the region’s infrastructure growth. This includes the completion of 12 bridge projects as well as various road improvements through the BRO’s Project Sampark and Project Beacon. The total investment for these projects was ₹731.22 crore, boosting connectivity throughout the border region.

Notably, these infrastructure improvements have a broader impact on the local populace. Improved road networks and bridges provide access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities, which are critical to the region’s overall growth. In addition to road and bridge projects, Jammu and Kashmir is seeing an increase in rail connections. On January 23, 2025, Indian Railways tested the first Vande Bharat semi-high-speed train between Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK) and Srinagar railway stations.

The Naushera-Seri Block bridge and the Vande Bharat train are just two of the transformative infrastructure initiatives taking place in Jammu & Kashmir. These measures are critical to improving inhabitants’ quality of life, increasing accessibility, and keeping the region on track with India’s overall economic progress. With ongoing projects spanning roadways, trains, and other key infrastructure, Jammu and Kashmir’s connectivity is anticipated to increase significantly, accelerating long-term development in the region.
