Building a future for steel construction

Building a future for steel construction

Steel will definitely see an increase in acceptability as one of the key building materials apart from the existing other building materials as India continues to witness an increasing adaptability of steel construction across all manufacturing segments.

Kirby India has been a pioneer and market leader for the last 25 years in the Indian Pre-Engineered Steel Buildings (PEB) market. The company has over 24 sales offices and a network of more than 150 certified builders to cater to the erection procedures as per international standards, capable of handling all types of complexity under adverse site conditions. The company has served over 10,000 customers by delivering over 40,000 buildings spread over  45 million square meters since its inception. Kirby specialises in completing many projects across diverse applications, such as factories, warehouses, offices, supermarkets, shopping malls, shipyards, metro stations, aircraft hangars, sports stadiums, showrooms, workshops, auditoriums, etc. Kirby India has also successfully ventured into many unexplored territories like shipyards, power plant structures, bridge girders, steel plants, multi-level process buildings, conveyor structures, high-rise office buildings, and data centres.

Kirby India has a capacity of 300,000 MT per annum with state-of-the-art facilities strategically located at Hyderabad, Haridwar, and Halol to cater to customers across all geographies. Kirby’s facilities are ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certified, and they are equipped with the latest machinery and equipment to meet rapidly evolving customer expectations. Kirby’s buildings are designed per relevant IS codes and as required by international standards such as AISC, AISI, and MBMA, which are in line with customers’ requirements. In addition to STAADPro, AutoCAD, ProSteel, Tekla, BOCAD, and ETabs, Kirby uses its proprietary software to design and detail PEB structures.

Innovation and sustainable construction
PEB is one of the choices when it comes to sustainable and eco-friendly construction, as steel is 100% recyclable and can be reused for making other products compared to conventional buildings. These buildings are also referred to as green buildings, and PEB is leading the green construction industry in the country through its PEB technology, thereby contributing to the green building movement.

Kirby India continues to expand its portfolio, with a wide range of PEB structures being constructed by our certified builders, who are our channel partners in this project journey. All these buildings are erected with world-class safety standards and quality workmanship as per the ISO standards. The Kirby construction team and our builders have completed more than 200 million safe man-hours over the last 15 years.

Driving factors
With the government giving impetus to the steel industry to increase its capacity to produce an estimated 300 million tonnes by 2030-31, steel consumption will increase in the coming years. The per capita consumption of steel has increased from 57.6 kg to 74.1 kg during the last five years and is estimated to reach 160 kg by 2030-31 (GoI).

The PEB industry has immense potential to grow in the coming years as the PLI scheme is expected to bring in huge investments in the manufacturing sector. Other initiatives such as 12 New Industrial Smart Cities under NICDP, Atma Nirbhar Bharat, Make in India, Industrial Corridors, National Investment & Manufacturing Zones, Gati Shakti Plan, Freight Corridors, etc., will attract huge investments, thereby increasing the demand for steel structures. PEB industry will dominate and create its own space in this growing construction segment. Kirby has been integral to numerous groundbreaking projects shaping India’s infrastructure landscape across manufacturing, warehousing, commercial, etc. It will continue to be an important part of India’s long-term growth story. Integrating AI-driven technologies in PEB design and construction will further enable us to meet modern infrastructure’s evolving demands and support initiatives like “Vision 2047 – Viksit Bharat”, which aims to promote sustainable and smart infrastructure development.
