Gadkari announces major connectivity projects in Bihar and Jharkhand

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari declares a ₹3,330.40 crore investment in important road projects to enhance transport efficiency and promote regional development.

Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, announces the sanction of three major infrastructure projects to improve connectivity and traffic flow in Jharkhand and Bihar. The cumulative investment for these projects is ₹ 3,330.40 crore.

Elevated flyovers on NH-19 in Jharkhand

Two six-lane elevated flyovers are being cleared for construction in Dhanbad, Jharkhand. These will comprise the restoration and rehabilitation of existing walkways along the Barwa Adda-Panagarh length of National Highway-19 between Nirsa and Gobindpur. The project, which costs ₹ 1,130.54 crore, is part of the NH-19 corridor (previously GT Road NH-02) that connects Jharkhand and West Bengal. The proposed grade-separated alignment will serve as a bypass, reducing congestion in Nirsa and improving traffic flow.

Four-Lane Spur in Kishanganj District, Bihar

In Bihar, a 24.849 km four-lane spur connecting National Highway-27 and National Highway-327E on the Kishanganj-Bahadurganj segment has been sanctioned for ₹ 1,117.01 crore. This project is intended to act as an economic corridor, connecting the East-West Corridor (NH-27, originally NH-31) with NH-327E. It will also improve access to Siliguri Airport (Bagdogra) and shorten travel times between essential destinations, providing a more efficient route for passengers.

Access controlled greenfield corridor in Bihar

The third project is to build a six-lane access-controlled greenfield corridor from Ramnagar to Kachchi Dargah in Patna district, which will include the widening of NH-31. This project is part of the Amas-Darbhanga highway program and has been sanctioned for Rs 1,082.85 crore. It will provide direct access between economic corridors NH-19 (previously NH-02) and NH-27 (formerly NH-57), improving connectivity inside Bihar and to bordering states such as West Bengal, Jharkhand, and the northeast. This corridor intends to increase long-haul traffic and freight transit efficiency in eastern India.

These initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and promoting regional development.
