Government approves the iconic sky deck and tunnel road in Bengaluru

Karnataka has approved a 250-metre sky deck in Bengaluru’s Kengeri area, aiming to boost tourism and offer panoramic city views.

The Karnataka government has approved the construction of a 250-metre sky deck at Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Layout in Kengeri, Bengaluru. This comes after examination and site inspections. Deputy Chief Minister and Bengaluru Development Minister D K Shivakumar confirmed the decision, citing feasibility and future metro connectivity as key factors.

Because the proposed site at Hemmigepura was not approved due to aviation safety regulations and land acquisition issues involving NICE, the towering structure will be built on a 25-acre plot owned by the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA), which is expected to become a major city landmark and tourist attraction offering panoramic views of Bengaluru.

In addition to the sky deck, the state government will shortly request bids for the long-debated Bengaluru tunnel road project. The first phase will consist of a single tunnel with carefully planned entry and exit points, avoiding sensitive areas such as the Vidhana Soudha.

Meanwhile, construction on a 114-kilometre elevated corridor to improve access to Kempegowda International Airport is underway as part of the government’s larger urban infrastructure development goal.
