Gujarat government launches ₹557 crore development drive to modernise Rajkot

The Gujarat government has allocated ₹557 crore for infrastructure and welfare projects in Rajkot to improve public services and urban resilience.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel inaugurated a series of projects costing ₹557 crore in Rajkot, aiming to promote regional development. The event, held at the Pramukh Swami Auditorium, brought together local officials, stakeholders, and citizens to announce the state government’s multi-sectoral strategy to improve the city’s infrastructure and services.
The projects cover vital sectors like energy and petrochemicals, water resources, water supply (including the Kalpasar project), sports and youth affairs, healthcare, roads and buildings, cultural activities, municipal development, and afforestation. The project is part of the Gujarat government’s overall aim to achieve balanced growth and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
A substantial chunk of the investment is going towards enhancing civic amenities for the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC). These include improvements to drainage systems, solid waste management, road construction, and the growth of basic urban infrastructure to meet the city’s rising population. New buildings and enhancements to existing healthcare infrastructure are intended to increase public access to high-quality medical services.
Water resource initiatives, particularly those associated with Kalpasar, are planned to improve water supply and distribution in the region, meeting both agricultural and home demands. Energy and petrochemical advancements will promote industrial expansion and improve utility services. Furthermore, the introduction of new sports and cultural projects demonstrates a dedication to promoting youth development and community well-being.
CM Patel emphasised that these projects were intended to address present demands while also preparing Rajkot for future expansion. He emphasised that the administration is committed to inclusive and sustainable development, with infrastructure growth benefiting both urban and rural areas. The ₹557 crore package is expected to help Rajkot become a modern, resilient, and liveable city, with construction on many projects starting soon.
