Kohler hosts Pecha Kucha Kolkata to highlight future-ready design

Kohler India’s 13th Pecha Kucha, held in Kolkata, showcased visionary ideas for creating resilient, inclusive, and future-ready environments.

The 13th iteration of Kohler India’s renowned Pecha Kucha event was held on May 19, 2025, at Kolkata’s famed Hard Rock Café. The event, themed “Designing for the Future”, brought together a powerful lineup of design visionaries to explore how architecture and design can shape a resilient, inclusive, and forward-thinking built environment.

Pecha Kucha, renowned for its energetic 20×20 format (20 slides, 20 seconds each), has served as a creative catalyst for the design community since its inception in 2013. This edition focused on the evolving landscape of architecture, where functionality, technology, and social responsibility come together to define tomorrow’s spaces.

Some of the most well-known figures in the field, including Devyani Jaiswal, Principal Architect, DJ Associates; Kamal Periwal, Director, Maheshwari & Associates; Monica Khosla Bhargava, Principal Architect, Kham Consultants; Manash Sinha Roy, Director, Practice Design Pvt Ltd; Amitabh Sarma, Principal Architect, Akar Foundation; and Anurag Kumar, Principal Architect, TJ Design Studio, gave engaging presentations during the evening. These speakers provided unique perspectives on future-ready design, ranging from incorporating sustainable technologies and smart urban planning to reimagining social spaces for changing lifestyles.

Ranjeet Oak, Managing Director – Kohler South Asia, stated, “Design is no longer just about aesthetics. At Kohler, we believe design is the most powerful language of change.  With ‘Designing for the Future’, we’re spotlighting ideas that respond to the shifting needs of our world, from climate to community. Pecha Kucha is where bold, future-focused thinking finds its voice, and we’re proud to nurture a platform that empowers architects and designers to not just envision what’s next but to shape it with purpose.”

The event solidifies Kohler’s commitment to fostering an innovative and collaborative culture within the design ecosystem. Pecha Kucha has explored themes such as “Sustainability in Design”, “Wanderlust – Creativity Inspired by Travel”, and “Design Now and Then”, making it a popular event on India’s architectural calendar.
