Lubrizol expands presence in Aurangabad plant
In an effort to serve local and regional markets, Lubrizol Corporation announces a $200 million investment to build a new production plant in Aurangabad, India.
Leading manufacturer of speciality chemicals worldwide, Lubrizol Corporation, announced today that it has inked a Memorandum of Understanding to buy a 120-acre parcel in Aurangabad, India, where it intends to build a new manufacturing facility initially to service the expanding industrial fluid and transportation markets in the area. The project’s first phase, which is expected to cost around $200 million, is the company’s greatest investment in India to date and expands on earlier commitments made in the area.
When done, the plant will rank as the company’s second-biggest manufacturing site worldwide and its largest in India. Over the next few years, construction will move forward in phases with potential for future growth.
“For over 50 years, Lubrizol has made significant investments in India,” says Flavio Kliger, President of Lubrizol Additives. “We will be able to support other Lubrizol businesses and regions in the future by improving our local capacity and capabilities for our Additives business with this new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.”
The plant’s announcement in Aurangabad is a symbol of the company’s most recent initiatives to boost local-for-local capacity and accelerate expansion in the area. In 2023, Lubrizol announces USD 150 million, the largest investment in the region in the company’s over 50-year history. The establishment of a grease lab in Navi Mumbai, the building of the largest CPVC resin facility in the world in Vilayat, Gujarat, the doubling of capacity at Lubrizol’s location in Dahej, Gujarat, and further domestic job development and innovation are all made possible by this investment. Additionally, as a strategic hub to boost its expansion in the area and facilitate greater customer and staff engagement, the company built its first Global Capability Centre in Pune this year.
Bhavana Bindra, Managing Director, Lubrizol IMEA (India, Middle East and Africa), states, “Lubrizol understands the importance of a local-for-local approach, from India-based manufacturing to in-region innovation to continued investment in a local talent.” “We are eager to stay our customers’ partners in progress and act as a driving force behind innovation and expansion.”
Nitin Mengi, Vice President Lubrizol Additives IMEA and Chairman & Managing Director, Lubrizol India Private Limited, says “This announcement underscores our continued commitment to our employees, our partners, and our customers in the region.” Lubrizol is excited to be a part of these industries’ promising future. The expanding transportation and industrial markets in India present a huge opportunity.
Apart from meeting the demand for India, this location would facilitate exports to neighbouring nations and other Lubrizol facilities. It is anticipated that the site’s manufacturing will start in 2028, in connection with Lubrizol’s 100th anniversary.
