Major milestones achieved in Secunderabad railway station redevelopment drive

With the RPF building constructed and parking and concourses moving quickly, Secunderabad Station renovation is getting closer to its 2025 completion date.
With several significant milestones already achieved, the renovation of Secunderabad Railway Station is progressing rapidly. One of the most significant accomplishments is the completion and operationalisation of the new Railway Protection Force (RPF) building. Construction is also in full swing across the project’s many phases. The basement work on the southern side, which will contain a drop-off zone and an underground parking facility for over 200 vehicles, is around 90 percent finished. Simultaneously, construction is ongoing on a six-story multi-level automobile parking structure on the northern side, with more than half of the foundation already poured.
Significant progress is also being made in passenger amenities. The foundation for a new footbridge near the Kazipet end has been completed, and construction of an air concourse with lifts and escalators is well underway. Two new 33 KV substations are being erected to replace the older 11 KV infrastructure and meet the station’s increasing power needs.
Despite the project’s size, South Central Railway is working to minimise passenger hardship. As part of the reconstruction, six platforms were temporarily closed for roughly 130 days, and approximately 60 trains were redirected to stations such as Cherlapalli, Kacheguda, and Nampally. The ₹720 crore rehabilitation project aims to transform Secunderabad into a world-class airport terminal by late 2025 or early 2026. The rebuilt station will include modern amenities like retail areas, cafes, multimodal connectivity, 26 lifts, 32 escalators, and two travelators.
This change is part of the broader Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which intends to modernise over 1,200 railway stations in India to improve passenger experience and infrastructure development.
