NHAI begin tunnel trial linking Dwarka highway to IGI

The NHAI has begun trial runs of a 3.6-kilometre tunnel connecting the Dwarka Highway to IGI Airport’s Terminal 3.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has begun trial runs for a 3.6-kilometre tunnel connecting the Dwarka Motorway to Terminal 3 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. This facility is a big step towards improving airport accessibility and reducing traffic congestion.
The tunnel begins near the Dwarka Motorway in Sector 25, Gurugram, and runs beneath the airport’s runway until it reaches Terminal 3. The project includes the construction of underpasses, ramps, and grade separators to enable efficient traffic flow and direct connectivity.
The tunnel, built at a cost of ₹1,000 crore, is part of the Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II) project, which seeks to act as Delhi’s third Ring Road. The new link considerably reduces travel time from Gurugram and West Delhi to the airport.
Once operational, the tunnel will streamline airport-bound traffic and improve integration with the city’s road network, giving travellers a faster and more convenient route.
