Otis Elevator Co. has been awarded the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Gold rating for its Bengaluru factory. The factory has been serving India’s people-moving market since it opened in the mid-nineties. Otis is a unit of United Technologies Corp.
“We are delighted to receive the IGBC’s Gold rating,” said Sebi Joseph, president, Otis India. “Since 2014, the factory has doubled its manufacturing capacity and its localisation program has enabled us to increasingly fulfill our customers’ needs.”
The IGBC is a part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the IGBC Rating System encourages green concepts and techniques in the industrial sector. To receive an IGBC Gold rating, a building must meet certain requirements under different categories. This includes site selection and design, water conservation, energy conservation, material conservation and indoor quality and occupational health.
Otis has been moving people and goods in India since it installed its first elevator in the country in 1892. Since then, Otis has played a critical role in enabling urbanization in the area that experts widely agree to be the second largest elevator market in the world.
