This interaction explores the role of design principles, maintenance strategies, and technology in efficiently functioning vertical mobility solutions in high-rise buildings.

What vertical transportation services do you offer for high-rise residential buildings?
Apart from elevators and escalators that help people move up and down, we offer car docks, which are car lifts that improve the efficiency of a building by saving crucial space wasted in a conventional ramp. These car lifts do not need any headroom. They are well-suited for applications where no structure exists to provision a car lift inside a building and/or where the architect does not want anything projecting out from the ground to accommodate a car lift. We have ATEX solutions for special vertical requirements wherein the lifts are fire-resistant for up to 4 h. We also offer dumbwaiters and emergency evacuation-powered chairs and mattresses to rescue mobility-compromised people in case of fires.

What are the recent trends and technological advancements in the elevator industry in India?
Recent technology-driven elevator solutions have the the Internet of Things (IoT) feature, which offers real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, improved safety, and enhanced user experience. It enables data analytics for usage optimisation, energy efficiency, remote access, and integration with smart building systems, leading to cost reductions and better operational efficiency while ensuring greater security. Besides IoT, autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs) have been integrated with our lift controllers. These vehicles, equipped with advanced technologies such as sensors, cameras, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, aim to revolutionise the hospitality industry. We have developed lifts with innovative regenerative drives that enhance energy efficiency by converting kinetic energy during descent into electrical energy, fed back into the building’s power system. This technology reduces energy consumption by up to 30 percent, lowers operational costs, decreases the carbon footprint, and improves lift performance.

Elevators, especially in high-rise buildings, are susceptible to frequent breakdowns. Describe the maintenance strategies that your company has undertaken to avoid such breakdowns and enhance the safety and reliability of users.
Our team of skilled technicians follows a comprehensive maintenance schedule to address potential issues, perform routine inspections, and ensure our clients’ elevator systems operate efficiently and safely. We utilise an advanced Asset and Task Management System to efficiently oversee lift maintenance operations. This system allows the in-house maintenance team to schedule routine inspections and manage real-time service records. A rigorous Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) process ensures multi-level checks at every maintenance stage.

What are the challenges of installing elevators in high-rise residential buildings, and how do you address them?
Challenges of lift installation in high-rise residential buildings include space constraints, structural limitations, logistical difficulties, safety regulations, and integration with building design. To address these, we employ advanced design technologies using scaffold-less erection systems, including the TIRAK© system, using cranes for material transportation in case of very high-rise structures, and developing a well-thought-out logistics plan. Utmost emphasis is ensuring compliance with safety codes during the complete process with over three layers of interim inspections and implementing robust project management for coordination.

How do you ensure your elevator designs meet functional requirements and cost constraints?
At Gilco Global, customisation goes beyond mere aesthetics. Each design enhances comfort, making every ride perfect and enjoyable. By incorporating art and cultural symbols, our elevators reflect diversity and dedication to excellence, creating spaces that resonate with the unique stories of the places they serve.

What practices have been undertaken by your company to ensure sustainability in its products?
Our unwavering commitment to sustainability is evident in every facet of our operations, from aligning with sustainable manufacturing practices to optimised resource allocation for various downstream processes. Our lift solutions comply with the ISO 14006 global standards, which concur with sustainability claims in eco-design. Furthermore, we have revolutionised our practices to prioritise environmental responsibility through innovative initiatives, such as regenerative drive, sustainable design practices, and our groundbreaking smart standby technology for elevators.
