Road transport projects launched across Jharkhand region

Nitin Gadkari announced and initiated several strategic highway upgrades aimed at easing traffic and boosting infrastructure across the state.
Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, laid the foundation stones for 11 National Highway projects in Jharkhand, totalling ₹6,350 crore. The project aims to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion across the state. They include a 4.18-km elevated flyover along Ranchi’s Ratu Road (from Raj Bhavan to OTC Ground) and an elevated corridor totalling 560 crore. The Palma-Gumla four-lane highway costs ₹1,900 crore, while the Barhi-Koderma length costs ₹825 crore. Infrastructure upgrades are also planned for Godda, Giridih, and Barahat-Tulsipur.
In the Garhwa district, Gadkari inaugurated a 23-km four-lane segment between Shankha and Khajoori, built at a cost of ₹1,130 crore. He also laid the foundation for a 32-km highway upgrading project on NH 39, from the Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand border to Gumla, valued at ₹1,330 crore. The minister also began a number of bridge construction projects across the state, demonstrating the government’s commitment to upgrading regional infrastructure.
Gadkari pledged a ₹2 lakh crore investment to modernise Jharkhand’s road infrastructure, aligning with the national government’s overall objective. Approximately ₹40,000 crore of projects have been completed, ₹70,000 crore are now being executed, and another ₹75,000 crore are in the queue. These highway upgrades are part of strategic programs like Bharatmala and the Raipur-Ranchi-Dhanbad economic corridor, which aim to increase intra- and interstate connectivity and boost regional economic growth.
