The Airports Authority of India (AAI) currently has 24 airports that are not operating.
Under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, investments of up to Rs 36,000 crore are envisaged for the building of greenfield airports.
By 2025, the PPP airports in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru would have completed significant expansion projects worth over Rs 30,000 crore.
The government has given in-principle clearance for the construction of 21 greenfield airports.

At Pakyong airport, work has also begun on a concrete cladding wall to preserve the uphill slope and fortify the base of a reinforced earth wall at a cost of Rs 180.61 crore.
Work on the enlargement of the terminal building, installation of a parallel taxi track, and grading of the basic strip at Manguluru airport is now proceeding at a cost of Rs 567 crore.
