Sustainable healthcare design of Graphic Era Hospital

Sustainable healthcare design of Graphic Era Hospital

Through its 800-bed facility and medical college, Graphic Era Hospital combines contemporary healthcare with sustainability, emphasising patient-centered care.

Renascent Consultants built Graphic Era Hospital, which is a component of GEIMS – Graphic Era Institute of Medical Science, a Medical College & Hospital Project. It is considered the epitome of modern healthcare design and environmentally friendly building. It seeks to create a patient-centered, world-class healthcare ecosystem in Uttarakhand and position the state as a leader in high-quality medical research and healthcare in India. The goal of the project was to employ local materials, sustainable building techniques, and avant-garde design concepts to produce a timeless, user-friendly facility.

When done in October 2023, the massive 800-bed super-specialty hospital and surrounding structures, which also include a 150-seat medical college, occupy over 1.5 million square feet. Every aspect of their design was carefully considered to ensure that every end-user receives the best possible treatment. The highest standards of patient care, the establishment of cutting-edge facilities with the greatest clinical and nursing care knowledge, and the provision of top-notch medical education to produce highly qualified medical practitioners are the goals of this project.

The design philosophy of this project is based on a strong dedication to sustainability. In order to lessen the project’s carbon footprint and boost local economies, the architects gave top priority to using locally sourced materials. This strategy encourages resilience and community involvement in addition to emphasising environmental responsibility.

The hospital’s open floor plan improves accessibility for patients, visitors, and medical personnel by being a prime example of spatial efficiency and simplicity of navigation. Patient comfort and operational effectiveness are given priority in this design decision, which creates a warm and inviting environment.

Every part of this project, especially the hospital, is designed with biophilic concepts in mind, highlighting the significance of establishing a connection between patients and nature to promote better healing outcomes. Large windows that are placed strategically let in an abundance of natural light and seamlessly integrate the interior with the outside scenery, which is proven to hasten patient recovery. In addition, a soothing and healing atmosphere is enhanced by the careful selection of healing colours based on colour psychology concepts.

Meticulous attention to detail was taken throughout the project’s development to guarantee that every area of the hospital fulfils both practical and aesthetic functions. Renascent Consultants showed tenacity and flexibility in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, overcoming difficulties to complete the project on time. This accomplishment demonstrates their proficiency and commitment in handling challenging healthcare architectural projects.

Graphic Era Hospital is a new benchmark for comparable design projects in the future since it embodies a visionary approach to healthcare infrastructure. It not only provides for emergency medical requirements but also acts as a paradigm for patient-centered treatment and sustainable development. By placing a high value on innovation, sustainability, and user experience, the hospital not only meets but beyond standards for contemporary medical facilities.

In result, Renascent Consultants’ Graphic Era Hospital is more than just a medical facility—rather, it is a showcase for sustainability and outstanding design. Through the integration of biophilic design principles, local materials, and patient-centric planning, the hospital aims to provide top-notch care with little environmental effect. Its completion represents a turning point in healthcare architecture and opens the door for other developments in the area.

The special feature of this project is that, in contrast to other establishments of a similar kind, it is a teaching hospital with the purpose and infrastructure of any large-scale, modern private healthcare centre. Additionally, this medical facility satisfies certain requirements for environmental performance and sustainability in order to receive the Gold-rating from the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).
