PM Modi inaugurates world’s highest Arch bridge

Prime Minister Modi inaugurates the Chenab Bridge in Jammu and Kashmir, the world’s tallest railway arch, boosting regional connection and pride.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the world’s tallest railway arch bridge, the famous Chenab Bridge, on June 6, 2025. It is an engineering marvel that breaks records. The bridge, which stands 359 metres above the Chenab River in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi region, is taller than the Eiffel Tower and represents a watershed point in India’s infrastructure landscape.
The architectural marvel Chenab Rail Bridge, which stands 359 metres above the river, is the world’s highest railway arch bridge. It’s a 1,315-metre-long steel arch bridge designed to withstand seismic and wind loads. The bridge would have a significant impact on connectivity between Jammu and Srinagar. The Vande Bharat train passing across the bridge will take around 3 hours to traverse between Katra and Srinagar, cutting the current travel time by 2-3 hours.
In addition, PM Modi launched two Vande Bharat trains that connect Katra and Srinagar, and he officially opened the Anji Khad Bridge, India’s first cable-stayed railway bridge. These initiatives aim to dramatically reduce travel time and increase accessibility in the region.
The inauguration is more than just an infrastructure triumph; it is also a significant step towards economic growth, regional integration, and increased connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir. The Chenab Bridge is poised to become both a national symbol and a global engineering marvel.
