Simon Meester is new president of Sandvik Mining and Construction in India

Sandvik Mining and Construction (SMC) appoints Simon Meester as the new president of Sandvik Mining and Construction in India. Simon’s appointment became effective first of February 2011 and he has already assumed his responsibilities in India. He will be based in SMC’s head office in Pune.
 
Simon is an engineer by education and additionally has a Masters degree in Business Administration. Prior to Sandvik, Simon worked for Caterpillar Inc in various global and regional assignments in Spain, USA, Holland, Switzerland & UAE.
 
He takes over from Shib Bhowmik who is also the Segment Head for Surface Mining Segment, Sandvik Mining & Construction for West Asia. Mr. Bhowmik was temporarily handling both responsibilities.
 
Simon is keen to begin his new role by travelling around the country and understanding the local market and its dynamics. He will then work on preparing the organisation for future challenges and to further expand the business. Environment, Health and Safety are on the top of his priority list, not only for the SMC and its employees but everywhere Sandvik does business.
 
Sandvik is a global industrial group with advanced products and world-leading positions in selected areas – tools for metal cutting, equipment and tools for the mining and construction industries, stainless materials, special alloys, metallic and ceramic resistance materials as well as process systems. Sandvik Mining and Construction is a business area within the Sandvik Group and a leading global supplier of equipment, cemented-carbide tools, service and technical solutions for the excavation and sizing of rock and minerals in the mining and construction industries. Annual sales 2009 amounted to about SEK 32,600 M, with approximately 14,400 employees.
