Indian Railways network to emerge as best in the world
Indian Railways network will emerge as the best in the world because of unprecedented focus is laid on enhancing the urban transport system. Inaugurating the Conference on Changing Face of Rail and Urban Transportation in India, organized by CII in New Delhi, Keshav Chandra, Member (Mechanical), Railway Board, pointed out that inadequate comforts services and feeder services to railways are concerns. This has led to crowd up in the road transport, particularly increase in the number of cars on the road.
In his address, R. K. Gupta, Managing Director, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India, said that RITES would be completing the feasibility study by December 2013 for building four-dedicated freight corridors, which is part of the proposed phase 11 of the dedicated freight corridor projects.  Gajendra Haldea, Advisor (Infrastructure) to Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, while speaking at the conference said that liberalization, by and large, bypassed the infrastructure sector in India, dragging the growth tempo of the economy.  Mr Haldea urged organisations like CII to spearhead a campaign for making infrastructure liberated.  Naresh Aggarwal, Chairman, CII Railway Equipment Division, focused on specific measures to accelerate reforms and boost the competitiveness of the Indian Urban Transport and Rail sectors. He also stressed the need for faster project implementation plans.
