DMRC commissions recycling plant for construction and demolition waste
In another major initiative towards environmental conservation and scientific recycling of construction wastes, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has commissioned a new facility at Rohini for the recycling of Construction and Demolition (C&D) waste generated from construction work. The plant may also be used by other agencies for recycling their construction related waste.
The C&D waste transported from DMRC’s locations will be recycled into green products like aggregates, manufactured sand, concrete bricks, tiles, paver blocks, kerb stones etc. Use of recycled aggregate reduces the consumption of fresh stones and sand, thus conserving natural resources and helping in reducing sand mining. The wet technology adapted at the plant will help in minimising process residues as well as dust and noise pollution. The C&D waste will be processed to recover and recycle about 95 per cent of incoming C&D waste. The project will also help in saving scarce urban land in addition to processing waste. Similarly, other agencies involved in construction will also be able to get their waste recycled here.
