AIML to serve power sector by reducing project execution time
A. K. Sharma, Executive Vice President – Marketing, Alliance Integrated Metaliks Ltd. talks about AIML’s journey in India as well as how it’s going to serve the power sector
AIML is into the business of power ancillary equipment and engineering fabrication. Could you brief your journey in India?AIML has a track record of executing power plant structure at site and could foresee the necessity of shifting to plant fabrication. Due to higher demand coupled with accuracy and inability to deliver quality at site, AIML entered to establish state-of-the-art fabrication facility with all CNC controlled machine to deliver bolted structures for power infra and high rise building sector.
What are the products and solutions you offer for power ancillary equipment? We have bolted-welded connection structures steel to any configuration up to 120-tonne single member for power plant support structures, bridge and multistory buildings composite construction. How significant is the engineering fabrication segment for your business in India?Handled in right direction and equipped with the best machineries, it will prove as a breakthrough to serve power sector by reducing project execution cycle time.
Enlighten us on your range of activities in this segment. We are at present focused on shop fabrication and soon may shift to design and built mode to provide end-to-end solutions.
Manufacturing of power ancillary equipment and engineering fabrication needs precision in material sourcing and processing. What is your comment in this regard? Our (USP) is to use resources to the best and deliver precision is the key requirement of today. What kind of quality control measures you take in assuring precision?Quality is induced in the process and each worker — who is working on machines — is quality controller. We still follow quality norms as per standards of the industry.
Could you brief us about the advantages of steel in construction?Today, steel is one of the most preferred materials in construction because of its inherent ductility and flexibility. Using steel in construction has several advantages like cost saving, time saving, recycle and reuse, and environmental impact.
Steel is immensely cost competitive with concrete. Even in low labour cost countries like India due to reduced cost of substructure and cycle cost resulted from faster erection and execution steel are considered as very economical construction material as compared to concrete. Also, use of non combustive material lowers the insurance cost.
Steel construction takes lesser time than any other conventional construction in terms of design, erection, and fabrication. It can sustain climatic abusing at sites in tough conditions like rain and snow, and erection activity can continue with little care. It also avoids creating PMC team and infrastructure like offices and labour camps, at site along with non availability of skilled labour to work.
Steel can be from recycled material and can be recycled again at the end of life cycle.
Most important, steel construction can reduce the carbon emissions by six times when compared to concrete construction that can lead to carbon credits on project. Only one-third energy is used in producing steel. In addition, the use of recycled materials like steel for offsite fabrication can help a project to achieve LEED credits by minimising impact on job site and reducing job site scrap and waste in making job site an eco-friendly place.
Discuss about the range of products you offer under this segment. We have a host of products which include columns, beams, vertical bracing, horizontal, racing, and ceiling I bridge girders.
Brief us about your current turnover and expansion plan. With the ever-increasing demand, we are under expansion plan to double the existing capacity to 60,000 tonnes per annum with more complex and heavy structure to cater for.
