Asian Paints spotlights on stylish interior decor

Asian Paints Where The Heart Is showcases Ananya Panday’s serene Mumbai house, which blends minimalist aesthetics with human warmth.

Asian Paints returns with a new season of Asian Paints Where The Heart Is, with the opening episode transporting us to the warm, sunlit corners of Bollywood star Ananya Panday’s cosy yet undoubtedly stylish Mumbai home. Viewers are welcomed into a room characterised by gentle minimalist décor, neutral tones, and handcrafted furniture. Her home emanates a certain “Ananya” charm – peaceful and discreet, but filled with a striking elegance that represents her characteristic glam look.

For the first time, the episode puts Ananya and her parents together, showcasing two opposing yet complementary worlds: the family’s colourful, busy home and Ananya’s calm retreat. Ananya’s quiet flat, with calming hues and minimalist décor, represents her inner journey of self-discovery, whereas the family home depicts her childhood’s happy turmoil. This contradiction beautifully demonstrates how Ananya remains emotionally connected to her heritage while simultaneously forging her own identity in the process of building her home.

Ananya passionately recounts her process of designing her space, providing viewers with décor inspiration that caters to a variety of tastes. “The concept of home, for me, is a sense of belonging and feeling like myself. But most importantly, it always implies ‘family,'” Ananya explains. Her flat, which is in the same building where her father has lived since 1971, is where she grew up as part of a mixed family. It evokes recollections of familial love and inventiveness. Reflecting on her upbringing, she fondly recalls her father’s home videos, which started her interest in being in front of the camera. “That was my first interaction with seeing myself on screen, and I instantly fell in love with it,” she tells me.

“I have a specific approach that I like to host people. I want them to have memories. When they think of my home, I want the first word to be ‘warm’.” And warm it is! Ananya’s home emanates serenity and subtle grandeur, with a cream and beige colour scheme. It also has personal touches, such as Riot’s section, which is dedicated to her dog and includes one of her old t-shirts that has become one of his favourite toys.

The property features unique elements such as wallpaper with handwritten passages from a letter and a bizarre recipe wall. She explains that the wallpaper was specifically designed for her area, providing a personal touch that makes her home feel warm and cosy to those who enter.

One of her favourite places in the house is her sunlit balcony, which is ideal for calm mornings with coffee and pancakes. Inside, her carefully collected bookshelves reflects her love of reading, while her simple kitchen, created for utility and charm, nourishes her enthusiasm for baking.

While Ananya’s home emanates a simple and relaxing atmosphere, her parents’ home provides a stark contrast. Chunky and Bhavana Panday’s home exudes a modern French flair, with monochromatic flooring and a colourful velvet sofa. According to Chunky, the house’s energy is consistent and positive. “There is some kind of divine intervention in this house.”

Bhavana pleasantly recounts the turmoil of throwing parties at home. “I remember one celebration where there was cake all over the house, including my couches and their faces. She has damaged my house a couple of times,” she laughs, referring to Ananya and pointing out the stubborn chocolate stains on the couches.
