BEML’s Raisen facility to drive metro coach production

Dr Mohan Yadav, the CM of Madhya Pradesh, inaugurated BEML’s 2,100th metro coach in Bengaluru, emphasising the importance of indigenous manufacturing in advancing urban transport and reducing import dependency.

Dr Mohan Yadav, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, recently visited Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) in Bengaluru and launched the company’s 2,100th metro coach. BEML, India’s leading manufacturer of rail and metro coaches, considered the event to be a watershed moment. During his visit, Chief Minister Yadav also handed over land allotment papers for a new manufacturing unit in Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, reinforcing the state’s commitment to improving urban transport infrastructure.

The proposed BEML facility in Raisen will cover 60.063 hectares and will specialise in the production of metro coaches and rolling stock. This new plant is expected to significantly expand India’s urban rail network while also creating job opportunities in the region. CM Yadav emphasised the importance of domestic manufacturing in reducing reliance on imports and developing the country’s technological capabilities. The new unit is consistent with the government’s goal of increasing self-reliance in critical manufacturing sectors.

The newly flagged-off metro coach is outfitted with advanced driverless technology that meets Grade of Automation 4 (GoA4) standards. The coach is heading to the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) via the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). These advanced features allow the train to operate without manual intervention, increasing efficiency and safety. CM Yadav praised BEML’s efforts to incorporate cutting-edge technology, emphasising how such advancements reflect India’s progress in the field of urban mobility solutions.

BEML Chairman and Managing Director Shantanu Roy also spoke to the audience, reaffirming the company’s commitment to advancing India’s urban rail system through continuous innovation and expansion. He emphasised that the new Raisen facility would not only improve BEML’s production capabilities but would also help the government’s push to modernise public transportation throughout the country. The company plans to use the new unit to develop advanced metro coaches and meet future demands from various state governments and metropolitan regions.

The event also highlighted how important it is for the federal government and the states to work together to promote infrastructure development. CM Yadav expressed confidence that the upcoming facility will strengthen Madhya Pradesh’s position as a key player in India’s industrial landscape. He stated that the combination of modern manufacturing techniques and local talent would generate significant socioeconomic benefits for the region.

As BEML continues to innovate, its expansion into Madhya Pradesh represents a forward-thinking approach to urban transport solutions. The integration of advanced technology and indigenous manufacturing is expected to help India achieve its goal of sustainable and efficient public transportation.
