BMC inaugurates reconstructed Gokhale Bridge in Mumbai

After over two years of reconstruction, Mumbai’s Gokhale Bridge in Andheri will reopen completely, restoring critical east-west connectivity and alleviating traffic congestion in the area.

Mumbai’s Gopal Krishna Gokhale Bridge in Andheri is set to reopen after more than two years of reconstruction, significantly improving east-west connectivity. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is inaugurating the bridge, with public access following shortly after.

The main carriageway and connector to the C D Barfiwala Flyover have been reopened, allowing for more efficient traffic flow between the Western Express Highway and areas such as Juhu. During reconstruction, the bridge encountered difficulties, including a misalignment with the Barfiwala Flyover due to elevation differences required by the railway authorities. Consultations with VJTI and IIT resulted in a solution that required the elevation of two spans to align the structures.

Key officials, such as Mumbai Suburban Guardian Minister Ashish Shelar and Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani, are expected to attend the inauguration. The bridge’s reopening is expected to reduce traffic congestion and significantly improve connectivity in Andheri and the surrounding areas.
