CM Saini approves infrastructure projects for Gurugram development
Road improvements, an electric bus depot, foot-over bridges, and water management systems are among the ₹249.77 crore projects that would improve Gurugram’s infrastructure.
During a high-level purchase committee meeting on Tuesday, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini authorised infrastructure development projects and contracts of ₹ 249.77 crore for the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). A significant sum of ₹ 166 crore has been set aside for the rehabilitation and strengthening of vital roadways in the city. The projects include 64 kilometres of master sector roads and 17.2 km of service roads. Some of the key works include repairs to roads dividing sectors 84/88, 85/89, 86/90, and 87/90, as well as other critical roads in sectors 15, 23, 30, and 81; strengthening and repairing service roads along major roads, such as those between sectors 58 and 67; and many others throughout the city.
These projects aim to improve connectivity, alleviate traffic congestion, and increase road safety.
To improve the city’s public transport system, the GMDA has approved three projects for ₹ 50.77 crore. These include: a new bus depot for electric buses at Sector 48 to promote environmentally friendly transportation options; and the construction of 154 new bus shelters throughout Gurugram, from Southern Peripheral Road to Northern Peripheral Road, as well as along the Dwarka Motorway.
These enhancements are intended to ensure that the city’s public transport system can meet future needs.
In an effort to improve pedestrian safety, the GMDA has sanctioned the construction of four additional foot-over bridges (FOBs) for ₹ 16 crore. These would be developed in high-traffic areas, including Sector 14 Market, near Raheja Mall on Sohna Road, CD Chowk on Sohna Road, and Sheetla Mata Road. These FOBs would help prevent pedestrian accidents and allow safer crossings in high-traffic areas. A major project of ₹ 16.40 crore has been cleared to install a centralised integrated water management system (CIWMS) on the city’s 1300 mm master water supply pipeline. The system would be expanded beyond the WTP Basai to include sectors 16, 17, 18, 19, and others.
This project would help to ensure equal distribution of potable water throughout the city by monitoring water usage in real time and identifying illegal connections. The system’s goal is to increase efficiency, reduce water loss, and maintain a reliable water supply for all inhabitants.
These initiatives demonstrate the state government’s dedication to improve Gurugram’s infrastructure. The measures, which range from improving roads and public transport to encouraging pedestrian safety and ensuring effective water management, aim to make the city more sustainable, liveable, and connected for its citizens.
