DPIIT accelerates regional development with key project reviews

DPIIT Secretary Amardeep Bhatia chaired a high-level meeting to advance major infrastructure projects in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttarakhand, with a focus on accelerating regional development and improving coordination.

Amardeep Bhatia, Secretary, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), presided over a high-level meeting to review mega infrastructure projects in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttarakhand. The review meeting, hosted by the Project Monitoring Group (PMG), was attended by senior officials from central ministries, state governments, and project sponsors.

The meeting reviewed 19 issues from 17 significant projects, totalling over ₹14,096 crore in cost. The discussions focused on accelerating the resolution of implementation challenges through improved inter-ministerial and inter-state coordination.

Among the major projects reviewed was the four-lane Jaunpur-Akbarpur road project, valued at ₹3,164.72 crore. The project addresses two major issues across two work packages and is critical to improving regional connectivity and road infrastructure.

The meeting also emphasised the establishment of new ESI Hospitals in multiple strategic locations. These projects are part of the Government of India’s larger effort to improve healthcare infrastructure, particularly in underserved and high-demand areas. Shri Bhatia stated that the hospitals will significantly improve access to quality medical care while also contributing to regional development, benefiting both the workforce and their families.

Another key project that was reviewed was the construction of NIT Uttarakhand’s permanent campus in Sumari, Pauri Garhwal. The campus, which is designed to strengthen the region’s educational ecosystem, will provide the institute with a cutting-edge academic and administrative environment. Once operational, it is expected to improve the quality of technical education and research in Uttarakhand while also promoting local socioeconomic development.
