The first 350 MW unit of GMR Kamalanga Energy Ltd. was declared commercially operational. The GMR Group is establishing the 4×350 MW coal-based thermal power plants at Kamalanga in Odisha’s Dhenkanal District in two phases of 3×350 MW and lx350 MW, respectively.
GKEL’s first unit is the GMR Group’s second coal-based power plant to be declared commercially operational. In March 2013, commercial generation commenced from the first 300 MW units of GMR EMCO Energy Ltd.’s 2×300 MW power plants at Warora in Maharashtra.
Power produced from GKEL’s first unit has been offered to GRIDCO Ltd. in Odisha, as per the long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) executed with it, pursuant to the MoU with the Government of Odisha.
G. M. Rao, Group Chairman of GMR Group, said, “The commencement of commercial generation from the first 350 MW units of our 1,400 MW coal-based project at Kamalanga signals a new phase of expansion of GMR Group’s power generation capacity. This is yet another example of our commitment to on-time delivery of projects, which will now generate revenue and enhance our shareholder value.”
