Gamesa underlines growth plans in India [03 May 2012]

Wind turbine maker Gamesa to set-up a manufacturing facility in Chennai with an investment of Rs. 2000 crore, informed Ramesh Kymal, Chairman and Managing Director, Gamesa Wind Turbines while talking to the mediapersons in Mumbai today.
Announcing the company's upswing in its growth trajectory, Mr. Kymal said, “We have received strong acceptance from all customer groups including PSUs across key markets on track to achieve 3rd rank in India”.
"India's wind potential is estimated at 3000 GW. As a company, we are well positioned to compete in the Indian wind markets", commented Mr. Kymal. “Gamesa has a significant market share of installations in India registering a sales turnover of Rs. 1600 crore, which is a growth of 60 per cent from the last year”.
Gamesa installed and commissioned more than 700 wind turbine generators within 2 years of setting up base in India with an installed base of 563MW across states including, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh. The company also has a portfolio of more than 6000MW in various stages of development in India and Sri Lanka and expects to achieve a production capacity of 1500MW by 2013 from the current 800MW.
The company has recently expanded its product portfolio by launching the G97-2.0 MW especially designed for low-wind sites. The company expects such sites to drive a major portion of demand in the 2.0 MW category and has already procured orders for G97 from a number of investors including a big order from Lakshmi Machine Works Group.
G97 turbine features a swept area 16 per cent larger than that of the G90 turbine and exceeds the energy output by nearly 14 per cent. The turbine features a new aerodynamic blade profile with optimised blade root, inbuilt ‘dry type’ transformer and an inbuilt condition monitoring system. It has a series of enhancements along with an updated look, with a state-of-the-art nacelle design and improvements in the cooling system inside the nacelle.
