Ghaggar Bridge inaugurated to ease Panchkula commute

A new 360-metre bridge over the Ghaggar River opens, shortening travel by 7 kilometres and easing traffic in the Panchkula region.

Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala and Home Minister Anil Vij joined BJP MP Suresh Kumar Saini to inaugurate a 360-metre-long bridge over the Ghaggar River in Panchkula district, significantly improving regional connectivity. The newly constructed bridge will reduce the travel distance between Nada Sahib and Mansa Devi Complex by about 7 kilometres, greatly benefiting daily commuters.

The bridge, constructed since 2018, cost ₹36.74 crore to complete. It connects Mansa Devi Complex to Panchkula’s Sector 20, providing a critical alternate route and relieving city traffic congestion. According to officials, this bridge will be especially beneficial for those travelling from Chandimandir, Sector 1, and Morni to Panchkula’s industrial belt and outer sectors.

During the inauguration ceremony, Saini emphasised the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, stating that the bridge will not only improve traffic flow but will also boost economic activity by increasing regional connectivity. The structure has pedestrian pathways and is designed to withstand high monsoon flows, ensuring safety and resilience.

The project, which was delayed due to environmental clearances and COVID-19 disruptions, is now regarded as a significant achievement in Haryana’s urban development initiatives. Local residents and leaders are optimistic that the bridge will alleviate long-standing transportation bottlenecks in the area.
