HCC Concessions starts NH34 toll operations
HCC Concessions Ltd, the infrastructure development arm of the HCC Group, has commenced commercial operations of its ` 1,169 crore, Baharampore-Farakka Highway, the first leg of the largest PPP highway project in West Bengal and part of National Highway-34 (NH-34). The Baharampore Farakka Highway is a 101 km stretch with a 25 year concession period. The four laning of this highway has involved four major bridges, 12 minor bridges, four rail-over-bridges, three grade separators, nine passenger underpasses, two toll plazas and 137 cross-drainages.
On the occasion, Arjun Dhawan, Director, HCC Concessions said, “Besides easing congestion and greatly enhancing safety, the widening of NH-34 will facilitate greater connectivity between Kolkata and the country’s interior, especially the land-locked Seven Sisters in the North East.”
HCC Concessions was awarded the contract to develop three contiguous sections of over 250 kms length between Baharampore to Dalkhola on NH-34 in West Bengal on a DBFOT basis in 2010, involving a total investment of over ` 3,200 crores. The ` 1,378 crores second leg of 102 km between Farakka and Raiganj is also nearing completion and is expected to begin its toll operations later this year.
