“Highest Capacity Addition for Power Sector in 2011”

“Power sector in the country is poised for record capacity addition of 15,000MW during this financial year”, said Sushilkumar Shinde, Minister of Power inaugurating International O&M Event “Indian Power Stations – 2011” on 13 Feb in New Delhi. The event was conducted to commemorate the commencement of power generation from NTPC’s  first unit at Singrauli (Uttar Pradesh) on same day in 1982.  Congratulating NTPC for its achievements in the field of power sector, Mr. Shinde said, “After nearly thirty years of beginning, NTPC has a total installed capacity of over 33,000 MW and plans to be a 75,000MW company by 2017”.
 
KC Venugopal, Minister of State for Power in his address urged the power companies  for new and innovative initiatives  for futuristic impact on power situation in the country by supply of reliable and quality power to all sections of the society.
 
 “The government’s plans to add capacity in the country continue to centre around NTPC. He added that expectations from NTPC are very high for significant contribution to the sector in the country, in view of the ambitious capacity addition target of 12th plan”, said P Uma Shankar, Secretary, Ministry of Power.
 
Arup Roy Choudhury, Chairman and Managing Director, NTPC said, “The Company is pursuing inclusive growth model meeting all its stakeholders including displaced persons, population around its projects and also ensuring quality power at reasonable cost to the consumers.” He has also highlighted the challenges faced by NTPC in the areas of fuel security.
