Indian government approves a four-lane highway in Ganderbal district
The Pandach-Manigam highway project intends to improve connectivity, alleviate traffic congestion, and increase tourist, trade, and defence mobility in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Indian government approves the construction of a four-lane highway in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, connecting Pandach and Manigam near Wayil Bridge. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways approves a project for ₹827.98 crore as part of the Srinagar Ring Road Phase IIA plan.
Union Minister Nitin Gadkari announces the availability of resources for this key infrastructure project. The 12.11-kilometre roadway will have one major bridge, three minor bridges, three realignments, 51 box culverts, and a 2.55-kilometre elevated structure across Ganderbal Town. These elements highlight the development’s intricacy and scale, which are intended to suit the region’s expanding transportation needs.
The new route is expected to improve connectivity for visitors and defence vehicles travelling to Leh and Kargil by filling long-standing infrastructure gaps. Improved access to these critical and scenic places is expected to increase tourism and bolster defence logistics in the region. Furthermore, the enhanced road is intended to reduce traffic congestion, resulting in greatly improved travel efficiency for both residents and visitors.
Beyond its immediate benefits, the initiative represents progress towards improving Jammu and Kashmir’s infrastructure. Improved road networks are critical for fostering trade, tourism, and socioeconomic integration throughout the region. With the government’s commitment to infrastructure development, the Pandach-Manigam highway is poised to play a significant role in the larger effort to transform connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir.
The project highlights the government’s emphasis on meeting both strategic and civilian needs, demonstrating its commitment to balanced regional development. As construction advances, the highway promises to be a vital lifeline for the region, bridging gaps and propelling prosperity.
