ISH 2025 in Frankfurt will feature modern heating technologies, incentives, and innovations that are propelling Germany’s shift to climate-friendly energy sources.
Germany and Europe confront significant obstacles if they are to meet their ambitious climate protection ambitions. By 2030, CO₂ emissions should be decreased by 65 percent from 1990, with climate neutrality attained by 2045. The building sector plays a crucial role in achieving a 44 percent reduction in emissions by 2030 compared to 2020, which amounts to approximately 53 million metric tonnes of CO₂. This positions the heating market, the largest energy consumption sector, at the centre of the heating revolution. Modern heating systems and substantial state subsidies provide households with numerous options to actively contribute to the heating revolution while also reaping long-term benefits.
Heating technology diversity: sustainability and adaptability
The heating business provides a wide range of technical solutions to help accomplish climate targets, with systems that can be installed and controlled in Germany by the Buildings Energy Act (GEG). There are a range of possibilities for both existing and new buildings. Heat pumps that use environmental energy, such as air, water, or geothermal sources, are particularly eco-friendly. Another alternative is hybrid heating systems, which combine various technologies, such as a gas-condensing boiler and a heat pump, to reduce the quantity of fossil fuels used.
Biomass heating systems that use renewable fuels like pellets, wood chips, or logs are also an option. Future-orientated are ‘H2-ready’ gas heating systems, which can be converted to completely hydrogen hereafter. Gas or oil condensing boilers can also be installed, as long as they use a climate-friendly energy source like bio-methane, biogenic liquid gas or green fuels. This wide range of options allows homeowners to select the heating system that best meets their needs while keeping sustainability and efficiency in mind.
Interesting subsidies for environmentally friendly heating systems
The technologies currently installed in German basements play a critical part in the success of the energy revolution. Of the approximately 21 million heating systems, almost 10 million are 17 years old and technically obsolete. This is where the state steps in with an interesting subsidy geared at hastening the modernising process. Starting in 2024, everyone who installs a climate-friendly heating system can claim 30 percent of the costs, and until the end of 2028, there is an extra 20 percent climate speed bonus for replacing an old system.
Households with an annual taxable income of up to €40,000 receive an additional 30 percent, for a total subsidy of 70 percent of investment expenses. Because of these factors, climate-friendly heating is not only environmentally good but also financially beneficial. Homeowners benefit from future-proof solutions, reduced energy bills, and the assurance that they are actively contributing to climate protection.
Tomorrow’s heat generation at ISH 2025
Manufacturers will present the whole spectrum of heating systems, as well as the most important heating-technology trends and breakthroughs in the ‘Heat Generation’ solution field, at ISH 2025, which will take place in Frankfurt am Main from 17 to 21 March. In addition to heat-producing technology, Frankfurt’s ISH exhibitors will demonstrate the current state of efficient heat distribution, transfer, and storage. The trade event will also include digital solutions, such as energy management systems.
The ISH 2025 programme includes a wide range of events. The ‘Building Future Conference’, which will be hosted in the Frankfurt Fair and Exhibition Centre’s ‘Portalhaus’ building, will feature specialists from politics, local governments, the property and housing business, energy supply, planning, and architecture. The conference aims to debate solutions and methods for successfully implementing the heating revolution. The event is organised in collaboration with ISH’s partner associations: the Federation of German Heating Industry (BDH), the Association of Air Conditioning and Ventilation in Buildings (FGK), the German Association for Energy Efficiency in Building Services (VdZ), and the German Sanitation, Heating and Air Conditioning Association (ZVSHK).
Furthermore, the ‘German Energy Consultants Conference’ and the ‘House of Energy’ conference will provide vital inspiration for energy-efficient and sustainable building designs. In other words, ISH 2025 is more than just a display of technological advances; it is also a forum for professional discussion of the difficulties and prospects of the heating revolution.
