ITD Cementation to build the Airport-Birati stretch of Kolkata Metro Yellow Line Phase-II

ITD Cementation has secured a 1,330 Cr construction contract, paving the way for the second phase of Kolkata Metro’s Yellow Line, which will extend the corridor from the airport to Birati.
With the awarding of the Rs 1,330 Cr contract to ITD Cementation, work on the Phase-II of Kolkata Metro’s Yellow Line, which will extend beyond the airport to Birati, is set to start. Phase-II will improve the city’s northward connectivity by adding essential subterranean infrastructure to the Noapara–Barasat Metro line.
The company will construct subways at Birati and Michael Nagar, a 1.7-kilometer twin tunnel, and a Birati subterranean station on the Noapara–Barasat line. The Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) is currently awaiting safety assessments for the first phase, which consists of a 7-km section between Noapara to Jai Hind (airport) stations.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) recently granted a no objection certificate (NOC) for the airport–Michael Nagar section, allowing the use of 18-m tall cranes. The second phase involves complex building near the airport. For the Birati station, ITD Cementation will employ the cut-and-cover technique, while the RCC box pushing method will be used close to the airport wall. Architectural finishing, firefighting systems, water supply, sanitary installations, electricity supply, and the aluminium third rail system are all included in the contract.
