Karnali begins work on sixty-one infrastructure projects

Karnali Province’s infrastructure is improving with 61 approved projects, including roads and bridges, ensuring better connectivity and development.

The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Urban Development reported significant progress in bridge and road construction across Karnali Province during the current fiscal year. So far, 23 RCC (reinforced cement concrete) bridges and 42 suspension bridges have been constructed, with six suspension bridges being completed between July and December.

Ministry Spokesperson Ramesh Subedi confirmed that five motorable bridges have been built on various roads, including four suspension bridges in Humla and two in Kalikot. Surkhet, Jajarkot, Kalikot, Mugu, and Salyan have all completed at least one motorable bridge.

Over the past nine months, 21.45 kilometres of roads have been blacktopped, bringing the total to 95 kilometres in the last 21 months. In addition, 205 kilometres of roads have been gravelled, and construction tracks have been opened on 525 kilometres of fair-weather roads.
For the fiscal year 2081/82 BS, approval has been granted for the construction of eight new motorable bridges and one Bailey bridge. Resources have also been allocated for a multi-year contract to construct 41 new suspension bridges.

In Rukum-West, funding has been approved for the construction of one road, two motorable bridges, and two suspension bridges. Similarly, three Bailey bridges in Jajarkot have begun construction, and the Nalgad Hydroelectricity Project has started work on a bridge in Khara that will connect Barekot and Nalgad municipalities.

In Surkhet, financial resources have been secured for 11 projects, including four suspension bridges, four roads, two road-and-bridge combinations, and one additional structure. Dailekh will see the construction of two motorable bridges and eight suspension bridges, with guaranteed funding.

Meanwhile, funds have been allocated for six projects in Mugu, three in Humla, eight in Dolpa, four in Jajarkot, three in Kalikot, eight in Dailekh, seven in Salyan, and four in Jumla. According to Subedi, Karnali Province has allocated funds for 61 infrastructure projects in the current fiscal year.
