Kobelco starts commercial production of hydraulic crawler cranes in India [Mar 2012]
Kobelco Cranes India Pvt. Ltd (KCI), a part of Kobelco Cranes Co., Ltd (KCL). Japan recently commenced the commercial production of its hydraulic crawler crane manufacturing plant in India. The new facility located at Sri City, Tada, Chittoor District (75 kms north to Chennai), would produce 100 units comprising 100 -ton, 150-ton and 260-ton class cranes during the current year. Of 40,000 sq. meter area, the new unit features the high-tech facilities suitable for enhanced production including Kobelco technology having a history of more than 80 years in crane manufacturing.
Talking about the commercial operations, Mr.Aida, President & CEO, Kobelco Cranes Japan stated that the annual production of hydraulic crawler crane units of KCI is expected to increase to around 100 units in 2014 respectively. The company is planning to achieve 35 per cent of localisation in 2012, and increase it to 50 per cent in the near future. He further added “Our Indian plant would soon cater to the markets in the neighbouring countries, and would help us sustain and increase our market share in the growing construction equipment market in India,” Mr. Izumi, President & Director, Kobelco Cranes India argued that local manufacturing of cranes would reduce the cost of the cranes and will be made available in the price range of Rs.2.5 crore to Rs.10 crore. The company expects to acquire a market share of 20 per cent by 2015.
