Maharashtra starts construction on Worli’s first transportation headquarters

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis led the official opening ceremony for Parivahan Bhavan, Maharashtra’s first dedicated transport department headquarters, which is going to improve infrastructure and efficiency.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held the groundbreaking ceremony for ‘Parivahan Bhavan’ in Worli, marking the start of Maharashtra’s first dedicated headquarters for the transport department. The department has been operating from rented facilities for the past 85 years.
The new Parivahan Bhavan will be constructed on a government plot on Sir Pochkhanawala Road in Worli, spanning 12,800 square metres. The four-story building will feature modern office spaces and a four-level underground parking facility accommodating 150 four-wheelers. The project is expected to be completed within two-and-a-half years.
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik called the initiative a watershed moment for Maharashtra’s transport sector. “This building is not just a structure; it symbolises the beginning of a new era in the state’s transport system. It will enhance transport services and provide better facilities to citizens,” he states.
The state government is conducting several steps to improve transportation infrastructure, including parking management improvements. Authorities are considering combining parking spaces in Mumbai, Thane, and Pune into a single mobile app to improve control. Additionally, computerised driving test tracks are being implemented to improve transparency and speed in the licensing procedure.
“These initiatives reflect our commitment to a smarter, more transparent transport system. By leveraging technology, we ensure convenience, efficiency, and accountability for all citizens,” CM Fadnavis posted on X (formerly Twitter) after the ceremony.
