Ministry to replace all level crossing with ROB
The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways proposes to replace all level crossing (about 240) with road over bridge (ROB) on non- National Highway Development Projects (NHDP) section for smooth movement of traffic. The Ministry plans to take the task of replacing level crossing with ROB in a time bound phased manner. Level crossings are major bottleneck in the National Highway (NH) network of the country.Till now, the construction of ROBs were by and large being taken up as a part of major road development programme under various schemes of the ministry namely NHDP, Special Accelerated Road Development programme in North East (SARDP) etc. However, construction of ROBs on LCs on the remaining NH network did not get the desired attention due to paucity of funds. With the improvement of lane width and riding quality the replacement of LCs by ROB cannot be neglected any more.
