MMRDA expands Metro and develops public spaces to develop Mumbai

The MMRDA’s metro extension and urban planning projects improve connections, provide public spaces, and stimulate retail and real estate growth in Mumbai.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is driving a transformative infrastructure effort to boost the city’s retail and real estate sectors. MMRDA, led by Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, is focussing on enhancing connectivity and establishing open public spaces to reduce congestion and boost commercial growth.

An important component of this project is the expansion of Mumbai’s metro train system. Dr Mukherjee stated that around 60 km of the metro network is presently operational, with plans for further expansion to enable smooth mobility throughout the city. The goal is to enable cross-district journeys in an hour and local commutes in 30 minutes, increasing access to retail hubs and real estate developments.

In addition to improving public transit, MMRDA is committed to creating well-planned neighbourhoods with plenty of open and public spaces near retail areas. This technique seeks to build lively community centres that attract both businesses and consumers, providing a favourable climate for retail and real estate development.
