Otis India expands production capacity of its Bengaluru facility

By expanding its Bengaluru factory, Otis India will be able to meet the growing demand for lifts and escalators in India.

The Bengaluru manufacturing facility of Otis India, a subsidiary of Otis Worldwide Corporation (NYSE: OTIS), a pioneer in the world of lift and escalator manufacturing, installation, and maintenance, has expanded its capacity and capabilities. The extension will increase coverage into more Indian cities and give more capacity to meet the country’s expanding demand for lifts and escalators in the residential, commercial and infrastructure sectors.

“Otis has been a longstanding partner in India’s growth since 1892, and this investment will further strengthen our commitment and growth momentum in this critical market,” says Judy Marks, Otis Chair, CEO & President, speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for the expansion of the manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. “The expansion will help us better serve our customers in India and export markets with innovative mobility solutions that support the rapid pace of urbanisation.”

The 1996-established Otis India factory in Bengaluru holds an Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) Gold certification. More than 25 products are being introduced by the facility’s Lead Design Centre for both the export and Indian markets. The plant’s capacity was doubled by an earlier expansion in 2012, and the current extension will add an additional 20 percent to the plant’s total capacity.

“We’ll be able to double our current escalator production capacity at Bengaluru with this expansion, supporting the growing needs of India’s vital mobility infrastructure,” says Sebi Joseph, Otis India President. “Bengaluru’s capabilities are helping to build modern metro systems, delivering 112 Gen2® elevators for the second phase of the Bengaluru Metro project and supplying 255 units for the Bhopal and Indore metro projects. Additionally, we’ll take another step in harnessing the power of digitalization for a smarter factory to meet our customers’ needs by innovating and improving productivity in transportation, logistics, and other areas of manufacturing.”
