PMO finalised roadmap for infra projects [28 July 2012]

In an aim to give a thrust to sustainable development, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) announced a roadmap for implementation of flagship infrastructure projects in the key sectors that include three airports, two major ports and high speed rail corridor projects.The PMO has asked the concerned ministries to complete formalities for the projects within stipulated timeframe. The PMO also informed that the mechanisms have also been put in place for regular monitoring and problem solving.In a statement released by the PMO, it said, “Detailed roadmaps have been worked for the flagship infrastructure projects in key sectors. The projects are moving ahead smoothly and detailed timelines have been drawn up for intermediate stages.” The PMO has already drawn implementation roadmap for developing two major ports in Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal. It said that an SPV would be formed to implement both the projects in West Bengal and Andhra Pradesh with 26 per cent equity from the respective State Governments and 74per cent from Government of India. The SPV would then bid out the project on a PPP basis.The PMO has also asked the concerned authorities to expedite the implementation of high speed rail corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, elevated rail corridor project in Mumbai and other routes, redevelopment of five railway stations, and three airports at Navi Mumbai, Mopa (Goa) and Kannur (Kerala).“For the Navi Mumbai airport, the Ministry of Civil Aviation will discuss the matter with Govt. of Maharashtra and obtain their concurrence to the process to be adopted to manage the PPP award process after the documents are cleared by Govt. of India. This will be completed by 15 August 2012”, the statement said.For redevelopment of railway stations, a new body, the Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC) to be constituted. Five stations have already been shortlisted for redevelopment.
