A 260-meter PSC bridge for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train has been built across Gujarat’s National Highway. The bridge, which has 104 precast pieces, is part of a bigger project that incorporates Shinkansen technology.

A crucial infrastructure milestone has been reached with the completion of a 260-metre pre-stressed concrete (PSC) bridge for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train. This bridge spans Gujarat’s under-construction National highway, representing considerable progress towards the ambitious high-speed rail program.

The bridge, located near Kosamba in the Surat district, is the project’s fifth PSC structure of this type. The bridge was built utilising 104 precast parts over four spans of 50 and 80 metres, employing the balanced cantilever method, which is best suited for longer spans. Its key location is between the Surat and Bharuch bullet train stations.

The project’s thorough planning maintained vehicle and worker safety during construction, minimising public disruption while preserving traffic flow. This high-speed rail route, inaugurated in 2017 by Indian and Japanese officials, intends to significantly reduce travel time, with the first phase set to open in 2026.
