‘Value of Water’ Conference advances global water sustainability goals

The ‘Value of Water’ conference at ISH 2025 will bring together global professionals to promote sustainable water management, hygiene, and sanitation solutions.

UN Sustainable Development Goal 6 calls for universal access to clean water and sanitation. The ‘Value of Water’ conference, held on March 17 and 18, 2025, will pursue this goal by addressing the most pressing issues concerning global water management, hygiene, and sanitation. As an independent forum within the framework of ISH, the world’s leading trade fair for HVAC and water, and with Handelsblatt Media Group as a trusted partner curating the conference program, this conference promises to bring together the brightest minds to address the global water crisis.

The ‘Value of Water’ conference provides a global venue for presenting and discussing proven methods, innovations, and best practices in water management, sanitation, and hygiene for buildings and infrastructure. The conference aims to accelerate global progress towards sustainable and equitable water solutions via meaningful dialogue and collaborative involvement. The expert meeting point aims to bring water sustainability to the forefront of the HVAC, water, and building industries, enabling firms to recognise their unique possibilities to generate real impact via cooperation and innovation.

The conference is aimed at a broad specialised audience as part of the ISH, which is expected to attract around 2,000 exhibitors from all over the world to Frankfurt am Main from March 17 to 21, 2025. The world’s leading trade expo, held every two years, achieved a high level of internationality in 2023. 72% of international exhibitors participated, and 44% of visitors came from outside of Frankfurt. Trade visitors include sanitation, heating, and air conditioning experts, as well as real estate and housing professionals. The target group includes scientists, researchers, decision-makers, local officials, and international delegations. Furthermore, the event provides significant inspiration for building owners and operators, urban planners, and architects.

Progress Plan: SDG #6

The schedule for the ‘Value of Water’ conference includes a variety of keynotes, ideas, panel discussions, and international best practice presentations from other countries and organisations. The breakout sessions in particular encourage in-depth dialogue and provide opportunities for new collaborations. Interested parties are kindly asked to actively influence the programming by submitting their ideas through the Call for Papers. The goal is to accelerate progress towards Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG #6).

The programme’s inaugural speakers are Henk Ovink, Executive Director of the Global Commission on the Economics of Water, and Doulaye Kone, Interim Director of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s WASH Program. Erin McCusker, Senior Vice President and Head of SATO and LIXIL Public Partners at LIXIL, will also talk. Additionally, Dinesh Mehta, Professor Emeritus and Centre Head at the Centre for Water and Sanitation (CWAS), as well as Volker Meyer, Chairman of the European Drinking Water Initiative (EDW) and General Manager at Figawa, will provide insights. Matthias Schäpers, Manager of Initiatives and Climate Positive Cities at DGNB, and Carolin Stüdemann, Managing Director of Viva con Agua de Sankt Pauli, will also provide their thoughts. Finally, David Viola, the CEO of IAPMO and Chair of the World Plumbing Council, will be among the distinguished speakers.
