Dormer Pramet offers advanced solutions in metal cutting tools
The Sandvik Group Company Dormer Pramet, a well-known brand in metal cutting tools, has announced the release of its newest products for 2024.
These products are intended to streamline and simplify the selection, setup, and optimisation of tools in manufacturing processes. Dormer Pramet’s dedication to streamlining machining procedures is demonstrated by the new range’s emphasis on operational versatility, plug-and-play design, and simple usability.
The Dormer R003 and R023 are two recently released devices that are highly adaptable solid carbide jobber and stub drills that offer cheap cost per unit, low thrust force, and reliable tool life for a variety of applications. These all-purpose drills perform exceptionally well on carbon steel and other typical workpiece materials. The drills include a split point that is specifically made to self-centre, and only the cutting zone has Titanium Nitride (TiN) tip coating, which offers a high level of cost-effectiveness while still guaranteeing a long and reliable tool life. The CTW grinding process creates a continually thinned web along the full flute length, allowing for many regrinds without sacrificing chip evacuation performance. The drills’ flute design and 120° tip angle make them a flexible option for a wider range of applications on both CNC and traditional machines. The R023 stub drills, which have a shorter flute length and more stiffness, are available in metric ranges from 1mm to 12mm, while the R003 jobber drills, intended for general purpose use, are available in imperial ranges N60–12 inch and metric ranges 1mm to 14mm.
Furthermore, Dormer Pramet presents its array of exceptionally efficient multi-purpose Dormer E397 and E398 taps, designed to provide process security and uniform performance in large-scale manufacturing. For through-and-blind-hole tapping, two styles—spiral point and spiral flute—are available for a variety of steel manufacturing industries, including fasteners, general engineering, automotive, and medical. In addition to performing exceptionally well in mild steels, the new taps design allows tapping into depths up to 2.5 times the diameter. It also offers dependable performance in a variety of other materials, such as stronger non-ferrous alloys, cast irons, stainless steels, and stronger steels. The special Powder Metallurgy High-Speed Steel substrate (HSS-E-PM) used to make all taps provides the hardness and edge strength necessary to enable high cutting speeds without compromising tool flexibility. Furthermore, the fast cutting speeds allowed by the top TiCN coating result in shorter cycle times. Its low coefficient of friction also offers protection against adhesion and cold welding. There are about ninety products available for each of the two types, which include DIN, DIN/ANSI, and the recently added JIS standards.
Additionally, the business unveiled the SSO12 milling family, a flexible high-feed milling idea appropriate for general machining as well as the Die and Mould sector. A high level of power efficiency, minimal vibrations, low noise, and high productivity are all guaranteed by the favourable design of milling cutters and inserts. With a very quick feed rate per tooth, regulated chip evacuation upward, extended cutting-edge endurance, and energy savings, the new HFC cutters offer a high metal removal rate.
The collection includes three different types of cutter bodies in both metric and inch sizes, together with a basic selection of grades and geometries. Finally, Dormer Pramet offers a high-performance turning grade for a variety of steel and ISO materials: T8415 PVD. T8415 offers a special blend of wear resistance and hardness, giving users a wide range of applications and longer tool life. It works well with coolant on Heat Resistance Super Alloys (HRSA) and stainless steel, and it can be used with hardened steels as well.
A multi-layered PVD coating on the latest generation of the grade guarantees consistent performance across a wide range of workpieces. T8415 has unique layers for increased wear resistance, decreased friction, extended tool life, and enhanced security. The grade works best at medium cutting speeds and light to medium feed rates, and it is designed for finish to medium turning tasks. An extended tool life is facilitated by the use of coolant in certain applications. T8415 has both positive and negative chip breaker geometries and comes in a variety of sizes and shapes.
These new products represent a major improvement in manufacturing efficiency, which is consistent with Dormer Pramet’s dedication to streamlining choices, decreasing tooling inventory, and improving performance. The country manager for India, Amit Raina, states, “We are thrilled to launch these cutting-edge solutions that embody Dormer Pramet’s dedication to operational simplicity and efficiency. Our new products are designed to empower manufacturers, offering versatility, durability, and performance across various applications. This aligns with our brand promise to simplify machining processes and drive success for our customers.”
These innovative products demonstrate Dormer Pramet’s dedication to innovation and client success and offer a more optimistic, efficient future for the manufacturing sector.
