Godrej sets a sustainability benchmark in Mumbai’s infrastructure

Godrej Enterprises Group integrates environmentally friendly materials into infrastructure, providing long-lasting precast concrete solutions for Mumbai’s transport network.

Godrej Enterprises Group’s Construction division is helping to strengthen Mumbai’s intra-city transport network by producing and supplying over 3,500 precast concrete sacrificial slabs for the Temporary Access Bridge (TAB) and 500 precast concrete tub components for sacrificial formwork. Each precast concrete sacrificial slab is engineered to meet high strength and durability requirements.

This project exemplifies Godrej’s proven ability to provide innovative and sustainable solutions for large-scale infrastructure projects. Godrej continues to shape India’s urban future by incorporating eco-friendly practices into core engineering processes, balancing progress and environmental responsibility.

Anup Mathew, Executive Vice President and Business Head, Construction Business of Godrej Enterprises Group, says, “We are committed to helping accelerate India’s infrastructure growth by delivering innovative and sustainable construction solutions. By embracing low-impact construction materials and circular construction practices, we are actively aiding the future of greener infrastructure development in India. Our contribution to the ongoing Versova-Bandra Sea Link project is a testament to this commitment. Through the use of more sustainable construction materials and resource-efficient processes, we are helping in the reduction of the project’s environmental footprint while ensuring structural strength and desired durability. This endorses Godrej’s commitment towards building India’s infrastructure more responsibly, with sustainability at the heart of our engineering solutions.”

Godrej’s precast concrete components include 10 percent recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) in the concrete mix design, which are produced at the company’s cutting-edge concrete debris recycling facility in Vikhroli, Mumbai. This facility, which is entirely powered by green energy, has received the Indian Green Building Council’s (IGBC) ‘GreenCo Gold’ certification for its advanced manufacturing efficiency and environmental standards. Godrej is leading the charge for a circular economy in the real estate and construction industries by converting construction and demolition waste into valuable building and construction materials.

The project demonstrates Godrej’s leadership in developing sustainable construction materials, making it a reliable partner for infrastructure projects. As the real estate and construction industry is under increasing pressure to reduce its environmental impact, Godrej continues to set benchmarks for balancing innovation, performance, and environmental responsibility, demonstrating that such environmentally conscious decisions can help all of us drive India’s infrastructure growth in the right direction.
