A high-performance Cat C13D engine was developed to improve long-term value for third-party original equipment manufacturers and equipment owners.

The Cat® C13D is a new 13-litre diesel engine platform developed to deliver best-in-class power density, torque, and fuel efficiency for optimising off-highway performance. The inline, six-cylinder Cat C13D engine platform is engineered to Caterpillar’s standards for dependability and productivity.

The engine has eight power ratings ranging from 340 to 515 kW and a peak torque of up to 3,200 Nm. Factory-installed after-treatment and cooling packs will also be provided to save on installation and validation expenses.

The C13D will enter production in 2026, satisfying emissions criteria in higher-regulated markets such as the EU Stage V, US EPA Tier 4 Final, China Nonroad Stage IV, Korea Stage V, and Japan 2014, with variants available for less-regulated regions. While in production, the engine will be capable of meeting future India CEV Stage V and TREM Stage V pollution criteria while continuing to serve unregulated non-roadable CEVs in India, such as rock crushers and screeners with steel tracks.

By delivering comparable power and torque to Caterpillar’s current 13, 15, and single-turbo 18-litre engine platforms, the Cat C13D platform allows OEMs to downsize the engine and simplify design, assembly, and supply chain requirements across multiple applications. This consolidation can also lower the complexity of maintenance, components, and technical training for end users.

The Cat C13D engine is intended for use in a variety of off-highway applications, such as rock crushers, screeners, and grinders; trenchers; agriculture tractors, harvesters, and self-propelled sprayers; woodchippers; material-handling equipment; and big industrial pumps.

“Off-highway OEMs and equipment owners face a rapidly evolving business environment that demands improved worksite productivity and reduced operating costs,” says Steve Ferguson, senior vice president of Caterpillar Industrial Power Systems. “Internal combustion engines are the prevailing workhorses on most job sites around the world, which is why we’ve invested in the next-generation Cat C13D diesel engine platform to address their challenges.”

Purpose-Built for Rugged, Long-Lasting Performance in Off-Highway Applications

The Cat C13D engine platform has been engineered to deliver the performance, durability, packaging, and ease of maintenance demanded by both manufacturers and buyers of off-highway equipment.

The new engine architecture produces up to 20 percent more power and 25 percent greater low-speed torque than the previous generation of Cat engines in its power class. It is designed to operate at altitudes of up to 12,000 feet, sustaining higher power than traditional engines at higher altitudes, and in extreme ambient temperatures as high as 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees Celsius) and as low as minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit (minus 40 degrees Celsius) with aids.

Engineers built the Cat C13D engine for quality, dependability, and ease of maintenance by combining components and lowering the number of leak joints by more than 45 percent. The upgrades, when combined, result in lower fluid use and extended service intervals of up to 1,000 hours, lowering operational costs and downtime.

The new engine platform will be equipped with Cat® Digital Services, an integrated suite of robust software and hardware solutions supplying the insight equipment owners need to make decisions on the fly, secure the health of their equipment, and minimise non-productive time.

The global Cat dealer network will fully support the new Cat C13D, including genuine Cat parts and services packaged in Customer Value Agreements. Dealer experts are trained to provide a complete variety of maintenance and services that assist customers in optimising the performance and total cost of ownership of Cat industrial engines.
