Conservation of environment and building social infrastructure is imperative for sustainable development and to ensure prosperity reaches bottom of the pyramid and touches the life of all citizens, said former President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at an ASSOCHAM event held in New Delhi.
“Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) should become an integral part of corporate strategy, management practices, business operations and product development,” said Dr. Kalam while addressing a ‘CSR Excellence Awards 2012-13’ organized by The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM).
“CSR should be implemented to enhance business sustainability, provide new opportunities, develop customer loyalty and improve stakeholder relationship,” said Dr. Kalam who is also one of India’s most-seasoned scientist.
Talking about the Provision of Urban Amenities in Rural Areas (PURA) through creation of physical, electronic and knowledge leading to economic activity, Dr. Kalam said “Evolution of sustainable systems like PURA is the need of the hour to bring about inclusive growth and integrated development.”
Suggesting the industry a roadmap for sustainable development mission in promoting and protecting the environment, Dr. Kalam said “The industry should form a consortium and locate and choose village clusters and implement sustainable development systems.”
