Govt to invest Rs. 70K cr for 11,050 kms of roads construction
Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh along with Road Transport Minister, C P Joshi and senior officials of the Ministry and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) recently reviewed the plans for road contract. The contract is estimated of Rs. 70,000/- crore out of which Rs. 57, 000 crore of investment would be utilised towards the National Highways Development Project (NHDP). The government plans to construct 7,300 km of road, an increase of 44 per cent from its previous 5,095 kms in 2010-11. The over all road that will be constructed would be 11,050 kms across the nation. The Government wants to complete 1,759 kms of roads in the Left Wing Extremism
(LWE) affected areas this year involving an outlay of Rs. 3,000 crore.
