MoU signed between India and Nepal on construction of motorable bridge

On Tuesday, India and Nepal signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the installation of a motorable bridge across the Mahakali River, connecting Dharchula (India) and Darchula (Nepal), with Indian funding.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Ambassador of India, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, and Secretary, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Government of Nepal, Rabindra Nath Shrestha, in the presence of Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, Government of Nepal, Renu Kumari Yadav, according to a press release from the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu.

According to the announcement, the project would improve cross-border communication between Nepal’s Sudurpaschim region and India’s Uttarakhand state across the Mahakali river, where close people-to-people ties exist between communities along both sides of the border.

This aligns with both governments’ common aim of expanding cross-border connection to streamline commercial, social, and people-to-people contacts. The bridge’s construction is expected to begin soon.
