PMRDA approves a 25-zone road network project

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) is launching a ₹3,000 crore road infrastructure project to improve regional connectivity and reduce traffic congestion by connecting key roads and fast-emerging periphery districts with a long-lasting, future-ready road network.
The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has initiated a ₹ 3,000 crore road network project to improve traffic flow and regional connectivity in Pune.
The proposal aims to connect key highways such as Satara Road, Ahilyanagar Road, Solapur Highway, Nashik Highway, and the Pune-Mumbai Motorway, while also improving access to growing townships and peripheral communities.
PMRDA Commissioner Yogesh Mhase states that the project will provide continuous road connectivity throughout the district using a phased repair and development approach. The development authority has approved work in 25 communities, focusing on link roads that connect major highways. Most new roads will be made of durable cement concrete and will have stormwater drains and underground utility conduits to prevent future disruptions, especially during monsoon season.
To accommodate increasing traffic, road widths are being built with future demand in mind, and technical surveys and utility relocations are being conducted to reduce delays. The project will be completed in phases with faster land acquisition. Once completed, the internal road grid would provide additional routes to decongest Pune’s arterial roadways and minimise travel time for commuters and transport vehicles, especially those on the city’s outskirts.
