Unconnected rural habitations to receive road connectivity

The Department of Rural Development is all set to provide road connectivity to 25,000 unconnected rural habitations by FY 2028-29 through the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana – IV (PMGSY – IV).

The Department of Rural Development’s proposal to provide connectivity to 25,000 unconnected rural habitations through roads and bridges has been approved by the Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi. Through this scheme, 62,500 km road has been proposed to be constructed at a cost of ₹70,125 crores between FY 2024-25 to FY 2028-29.

Of the total estimated cost of ₹70,125 crores, the central and state governments will contribute ₹49,087.50 crores and ₹21,037.50 crores, respectively. Through this scheme, the following population sizes will be covered: 100+ in LWE affected districts, 250+ in NE and hill states/union territories, and 500+ in plains, according to Census 2011.

The proposed all-weather roads will promote the required socioeconomic development and upgradation of the remote areas. Through this project, government educational, health, market, and growth centres, which are located further remote, will become easier to reach, which will benefit the local people.

The government proposes to implement the PMGSY -IV road alignment planning through the PM Gati Shakti portal, which will also assist in DPR preparation. Gold standards of road construction such as cell-filled and panelled cement concrete, cold mix technology and waste plastic, full-depth reclamation, and use of construction waste and other wastes including fly ash, steel slag, etc. will be followed.
